Visibly Exasperated, is made with oil on canvas paper, framed with a 10cm cream frame. The palette is strong and nurturing, comforting us through uncertain times, which elicits a visceral response. This organic palette is reminiscent of desert landscapes, real and surreal, revealing brown and red tones that echo the Earth’s hues. The sadness expressed in the man’s face is brought into tangible form with expressive layers of paint. Using palette knives was useful for applying clean patches of colour onto the canvas. The blade allowed me to swipe a layer of color onto the canvas. The Impasto technique used in this painting, is laid on the surface in very thick layers, thick enough so that the strokes are visible which, provides texture, the paint appears to be coming out of the canvas.
